Transport back in time to the 1800s to see the magnificent original Turkish Baths. Connect to the people who first used it, discover how your ancestors bathed and find out more about the area of the time through this fabulous Grade II listed site.

This Heritage Open Days, take the opportunity to discover the original Minton tiles and beautiful stained glass of this 112-year-old building, which is one of only twelve remaining Turkish Baths open to the public in the UK. This historical treasure is hidden in the heart of Carlisle City Centre and will literally take your breath away! The Turkish Baths were built in 1909 and listed in 2010 and we frequently get comments like: “WOW, I have yet to see a photograph that does this justice!” Definitely worth a visit!

Access: Not suitable for wheelchair users or prams. Some surfaces may be slippy. It also gets very warm inside.

Yesterday I went with my husband on the heritage tour of the Turkish Baths and WOW! We have lived in Carlisle so long and never realised what a Gem we have on out doorstep. I walk past here most days and never realised just how beautiful it is inside. I can't wait to book a visit with friends and have a relaxed afternoon.

This place is a hidden gem. A "must see" just to admire the victorian decor. Warm and hot rooms, steam room and sauna and a fabulous cool plunge pool. A peaceful city centre refuge for a couple of hours relaxation at a bargain rate. Ideal for a lone visit or a group of friends.

We now go to The Turkish Baths on a weekly basis. It helps with our mental and physical wellbeing, the experience is as unique as the beautiful, historic surroundings. We meet up with others who are there for the same reasons and welcome new users. The training pools and Turkish Baths need to be retained as they are for the benefit of all people , not as a leisure facility but to meet the needs of the Health and Wellbeing of the people who need its magic.

Such a fabulous building, just needs a little tlc to bring it to full glory. We really enjoyed our recent visit and will be back next time we’re in Carlisle. I would definitely recommend this amenity.

We took a Guided Tour of Carlisle Turkish Baths this afternoon. Its such a beautiful building with so much history. The Friends of Carlisle Turkish Baths guided us through the history of the Baths, explaining how to use the baths including all of the different steam rooms and their temperatures, and the amazing plunge pool. It was so exciting to hear all of the groups plans to help save and develop these historical baths. I would highly recommend booking a tour, and I will be booking a session at the Baths to relax in such beautiful surroundings, especially now I know you can book group sessions.
