CUMBERLAND ELECTIONS 5 MAY
CARLISLE HAS LOST TOO MUCH OF ITS HERITAGE, DON’T LET THE BATHS BE NEXT
Elections take place on 5 May for members of the new Cumberland Unitary Authority that will replace Carlisle City Council and Cumbria County Council. Members of the new Cumberland Authority will decide the fate of Carlisle’s Historic Baths. We have written to all the candidates to ask them three important questions about the Baths and what they would do with them if elected on 5 May.

Since 2018 Carlisle City Council have known that GLL will cease to operate the Turkish Baths when the new pools open at The Sands Centre, but they haven’t arranged either to extend GLL’s contract, appoint a new operator or run it themselves. The Council have said the Baths must close from September 2022 with no plan as to how or when it will reopen.

The people who will decide the future of Carlisle’s Historic Baths are the local politicians. The Friends are committed to working with the City and County Councils, the local MPs and the new Cumberland Council, but the people politicians listen to most are their constituents.
We need local MPs and Councillors of all parties to back the Vision.
Please write to your MP and Councillors today and ask them to support the Vision for the Baths.
